Real world uses of permanent magnets include many everyday items. Some examples can be found on many refrigerators in the decorative magnets used to hold up children?s achievements. Manufacturers also use a permanent magnet in many electronic appliances and in the medical field as well. Speakers convert signals into vibrations that carry sound by using a permanent magnet. The magnet changes the signal from electric energy through a coil. The coil then transfers the sound to the speaker cone using a bobbin that is wrapped around it. The vibrations react with the magnet and the cone moves because of the air pressure made by the interaction. Speakerphones and microphones work in the same way; however, they do so in the opposite direction. Other common uses of these magnets include generators and motors, which use the same principles as speakers and microphones.
